Project overview
I am participating in the WordPress Credits program through Universidad Fidélitas. My contribution project is focused on the WordPress Polyglots team: translating the Astra theme into Spanish as used in Costa Rica (es_CR).
Goal and scope
The course minimum I confirmed was 100 translation suggestions. I completed 150 Astra interface strings so the project would make a substantial contribution and leave a practical buffer for editorial review. Every suggestion was submitted through the official translate.wordpress.org workflow.
What I contributed
I translated labels, interface controls, layout settings, help text, feature descriptions, and other user-facing strings. I skipped entries that were ambiguous, malformed, brand-specific, or made only of placeholders. The final personal waiting filter shows 150 suggestions attributed to my WordPress.org account.
Quality controls
I preserved variables, placeholders, punctuation, and HTML elements exactly. Before requesting review, I exported the complete 150-entry set and checked it against the official Spanish (Costa Rica) glossary. I corrected earlier suggestions to use the locale’s formal “usted” voice, sentence-case capitalization, high quotation marks, and neutral phrasing where possible. The final audit found no remaining informal tú/vos wording in the submitted translations.
Measured result
At the start, Astra had 1,930 untranslated strings and 39 suggestions waiting globally in es_CR. At completion, it had 1,780 untranslated strings and 189 suggestions waiting. My personal waiting filter contains exactly 150 suggestions, matching the 150-string net change.
Community review
I submitted an Editor Request to the global Polyglots blog with the #es_CR and #editor-requests tags. The request is currently pending moderation, which is normal for a contributor’s first post.

Why this matters
Astra is a widely used WordPress theme. Improving its Costa Rican Spanish translation makes theme controls easier to understand for local users and helps the es_CR locale move closer to complete coverage. The project also taught me how open-source localization depends on consistent terminology, careful technical validation, documented evidence, and volunteer editorial review.
Current status and next steps
The translation phase is complete. The 150 suggestions are waiting for the Costa Rica translation editors. I will respond to reviewer feedback, make any requested corrections, continue documenting the work on this site, and participate in the relevant WordPress community activities required by the program.
